Starting Sunday (1/26) and ending Monday (1/27) night the DNS servers will be relocating to new hardware & networks! Some questions you may be asking yourself about these changes may be as follows, but if you have any others, please don’t hesitate to get in touch!
What is DNS?
Domain Name Service (DNS) is what tells your visitors computers how to reach your website! Think of it as the phonebook for website phone numbers – so let’s use the example of FlockHosting – You type in flockhosting.com into your browser is queries and finds out how to reach it via it’s IP address and the site is displayed.
Why are you making adjustments?
Always looking to improve performance for customers, these changes put things on the latest and greatest tech, but also relocate the servers geographically in the USA to more diverse locations and give us better speeds!
What do I need to do?
Absolutely nothing! I’m doing a manual check of customer domains (don’t worry I’ll sleep eventually!) to ensure DNS is all lined up, already synced up the latest DNS settings for your domains so just verifying that things are migrated over perfectly!
How do I know when it’s done?
If all goes as planned, you won’t notice a thing! Things will just continue to work! But if for some reason there is an issue with your domain(s) then please don’t wait, just open a ticket right away or communicate there is an issue! I’ll be posting updates over the two days as things progress, so stay tuned!
Update (12:47AM): Changes are in place. Spot checking domains, so far 100%! Speeds look good too – few more to check then sleep awaits!
