Emergency Maintenace [Update]

Tonight I received notification from hardware monitoring that one of the drives on Faith is currently experiencing errors, and instead of waiting a few days and replacing it, steps are being taken to have it changed this evening to avoid extended outage if the drive does fail entirely.

This will mean an outage this evening, and I do apologize for the late notice  at 8PM PST (10CST) the server will be taken offline for ~30 minutes to swap out the drive, 30 minutes is of course the best case scenario the Datacenter could provide me with, so I ask for your prayers over this transition to the new drive that it goes smoothly and things come back up quickly Рand that the hands of the crew in the data center are blessed with a smooth replacement.

As soon as the server is back online and things are operating properly I will update this post as well as statuses on Facebook and Twitter – I am also working to label all customers in the newsletter database with which servers they occupy so that I can send out targeted email notes to folks on when things are going up/down or changing, so thanks for your patience and prayers! I’ll update with more in a few hours!

UPDATE: Looks like things have started to level out, monitoring things closely still – Watching things for next few hours closely as things finish up entirely, but so far so good! Thanks for the prayers!

Server Work!

As mentioned in the last post, in an effort to keep things running smooth, reduce groups of server outages, some things are being re-located within one of the primary data centers I utilize for FH’s servers. Thursday and Friday there will be some outages lasting at least an hour, hopefully less, and hopefully not too much longer – I wish I could give specifics, but each will take a little bit different amount of time.

The plan though is as follows:

Thursday 12:30AM : Shepherd and Faith
Friday 12:30AM: Business and FlockHosting.com

Again, the goal is for as little downtime as possible, but to also avoid prime-time hours with web browsing the late hour has been selected. If you have any questions please open a ticket, or drop me any email, also be sure to watch our Facebook and Twitter Pages for updates as it happens.

Spam Filters

Over the next few days a few blacklists will be adjusted in the anti-spam solution recently deployed – at least one of the lists has made it to where to get “unlisted” its $50 – and they have no record of why you were blocked in the first place – so very shady, and no matter how useful their blacklist might be, if folks can’t send or receive email due to that list, that’s no good.

I will point out that the BlackLists are still just a stop-gap measure to really hold out until I can find favorable pricing on spam filtering, so stay tuned for more information!

DNS Migrating!

Well the final things are falling into place, DNS was switched, and is slowly propagating across the web, this will do a few things, first of which is make deployment of new websites easier (Sorry to all customers new and old who had delays) – but it also allows once again the creation of Add-on, Parked, and Sub domains all from the cPanel interface without any interaction from me, so your good to go!

If you notice anything odd with your website, please do let me know ASAP, ticket system is up and online (it’ll be moving tonight to it’s new server) – but once all this has settled, things will move onto a few growth points, some new add-on’s which will be free to all, some upgrades to customers for their patience in this move, and some specials! The Simple package released in 2007 will be phased out, and a new Simple 2008 will take it’s place, so stay tuned for that as well.

Lot’s coming up, stay tuned for more!
