cPanel Migrations + Cancer Update

So the short version of cPanel things is as such:

  • Servers Migrating to New Beefy Hardware = Migrations. Biggest and most costly to try to get ahead of – Church Hosting – So hardware ordered this weekend, and getting ready for a move!
  • Lilly and Grace will partly move to Moses, and then an additional server will come on board to handle the remainder.

Now on the matter of my health, scroll to about 6:05 in the audio above and it’ll all be laid out for you there 😀

Thanks as always for checking in, appreciate your continued patience and prayers!

The July FlockUpdate/Cancer Update

Show notes:

  • cPanel Changes: Per-Server pricing is changing, working on the companies we license cPanel from, the big price change would be about a $1/m add if you want cPanel – some of you may not even need cPanel! So that’s something that’ll be changing, again waiting on pricing! There are other options coming including systems like DirectAdmin & VestaCP – both would be provided free – but price changes will be sorted out, and I’ll provide a clear path moving forward.
  • Domain Pricing: The $11/year pricing is going to be changing in 2020, I am still working on the pricing changes, working to keep it simple, maybe $13/year if possible (for .com, .net, .org) – and I’ll also be adding some additional domain name options similar to .church.
  • FlockHosting.com Updates: Freshen up the site, freshen up VPS, etc. more coming soon!
  • LiveChat vs. Ticket: For support related concerns, email or ticket – ticket is always my best bet for you, but even if it is check in on me, ticket vs. Live Chat.
  • Squirrel Mail Retired: As this open source project has gone stale, cPanel has begun removing Squirrel Mail, so I do apologize for it disappearing – you can always utilize: https://webmail.flockhosting.com – A great interface called Rain Loop, works great!
  • Discussion Board: It has been around, but if you are a message board kind of person check out https://discuss.flockhosting.com/ – It’s a resource I check in on, and if you have spare time, feel free to post some helpful tools / tips if you have them!
  • FlockHosting Knowledge Base(KB): KB videos are going away, sadly the company that provides all the videos on there has decided to shut down, so videos will be disappearing, new fresh ones will be made slowly but surely, but cPanel’s built in help is pretty handy too.

Personal Update:

This one I’m not going to type it all up, but for the bulk of it listen starting around 15 minutes on the audio – but an addition is my white count has tanked and they started me on the shot for improving my white count, which when they said “May cause bone pain” I didn’t think it would be this bad. It’s miserable! So prayers are appreciated as we push my body to perk up as next Chemo treatment is the 22nd, so have to get it up soon! Continued prayers are appreciated!

The FlockUpdate-ish.

Greetings FlockHosters!

This 2019 has been a crazy one so let’s go with the things going on which are good before we get to the singular big bad thing.

  • Nginx + Upgrades – We have some minor performance issues on the current build-out of the server stack, cPanel does a good job, but we’ve had a number of attacks which have brought servers to their knees. So more adjustments are going in, but Nginx is improving overall load times and load time scores so all servers should have these updates completed in the next few weeks.
  • Website Design – Coming soon still, this was pushed back a little, but I wanted to let folks know if you are looking for a design for your site, it’s coming soon, BUT you can email me directly if you are looking for a rough quote on the work you desire to be done.
  • Custom Projects – Now this is one that’s going to soon be an option on the site but many have asked how to get information on a custom quote/project pricing, and the easiest way I’ve done this lately is the contact form, just leave some details and we can work out the plan – Already have helped a local Christian Station online with not only hosting, but now serving their online station radio! So I can meet most needs!

So that’s good! Sadly there is some bad, and I’m going to keep it brief and get straight to the point. 2 weeks ago after months in discomfort with back pain and really just feeling poorly I’ve been diagnosed with Esophagus Cancer – Stage 3. To better let me explain vs. many paragraphs here’s a 30-minute update from Me on Me.

What can I do?! I mention in the post the key thing I desire? Prayer. I don’t mind if you feel led to do more, giving you can do through the crowdfund site every little bit helps, I appreciate emails & letters all of that can be found on the communicate page – also the scheduling forgot to mention that some windows are closed off for treatments – but please don’t hesitate to reach out to me via email, shoot a text, follow my private accounts on social+blog (IG, FB, TW, Blog)

Those of you have already given thank you so much for being amazing! Those of you who are saying “I want to, but ______” stop right there, bow your head and I say thank you! Giving something is not required at all, my mantra in all of this!

I’ll be checking in on social media now and again and hopefully in 6 weeks we’ll here is all gone, and that God, not me is victorious God is good and I hope you all had an amazing Easter and have an amazing week!

Where’s my Q1 FlockUpdate?

For those of you who are regular watchers of the FlockUpdate, you may have noted that March has just left us without you getting a chance to see me sit in front of a camera and talk – well sadly my health has not been too good as of late, and for the last 3 months I’ve been out of commission.

I’ve been to my General Physician, a Chiropractor, a Cardiologist, Physical Therapy, and as of yesterday add Gastroenterologist to the list. So what on earth is wrong with me, well yesterday we found there was a blockage in my esophagus, a biopsy was taken, CT scan planned for tomorrow – but still not the core spot of the original pain that started this all! But! We did learn my heart is fantastic due to a catious GP wanting to do some tests.

So if you have noticed a slow-down in ticket response, or lack of reply on Live Chat – please understand with the pain I can’t sit sadly at a desk for any major length of time on average, some days are better than others but it’s not been an easy couple of months, but things are still working!

The next week or so things may slow down a bit, with taxes still looming, budget getting tighter since I haven’t had a lot of contract hours these past few months, stress keeps trying to pile up, and I do my best to hand it off to the Lord, but sadly human nature’s inability to see from that Godly perspective let’s fear take the reigns sometimes, but I’m prayerfully expecting God will do good things through all of this! But I do covet your prayers!

Once things settled down and things are sorted out there will be a proper FlockUpdate, and news on things going on behind the scenes with performance, and servers – but for now just wanted to give folks an bit of info on what’s going on with the man behind the curtain! More coming soon! Thanks in advance for your prayers!

Disabling WordPress XMLRPC

A large number of sites have got hit with WordPress attacks, and weak passwords are falling victim to hackers trying bulk password attempts over XMLRPC service built into WordPress – so to help battle this issue I’ve begun rolling out a patch across all servers which disables access to this system.

If you are someone who is actively using this service within WordPress, please open a ticket so I can give you access in an alternative way!
