Server Migrations Friday

While I’d hoped to have had this out earlier yesterday, I missed it by a mere 2 hours! So here’s the information like last week:

This Friday, March 17th starting at 10:00 PM Pacific. The servers being migrated are:

  • Church (New IP: 67.205.161.18)
  • Lilly (New IP: 23.111.146.77)

This means you’ll need to do some DNS changes if you manage your own DNS the new IP’s are listed above. If you use FlockHosting, these changes will be made as sites transfer, all sites will be on a 5 minute TTL which means every 5 minutes the DNS checks for new DNS, this will return to normal after the migration is complete.

I’ve done a test migration of Church, comes in at around 2+ hours to move all data. Lilly comes in around the same but that’s BEST case, may take longer (could take less!) – but sites should be moved quickly as possible.

Now if your MySQL databases aren’t working you’ll want to reset the password on the new server to do this, you’ll need to:

  1. Login to cPanel
  2. Select MySQL Databases
  3. Scroll to the bottom and find the user attached to your site, click “Change Password.”
  4. Copy and Paste your current password into place and change the password.

This will reset the password to the new secure format + keep you from having to edit wp-config files. However, if you are unsure how to do this, and hit this issue, I’ll be on hand Saturday to assist.

This move should be relatively painless, quick cut-over, all SSD storage now, should give things a bit more pep in their step! This will happen a week from Friday, and then I’ll post the migration IP’s and such then too.

If you have ANY questions before the move, please let me know. If you are unsure how to make these changes on your own self-hosted DNS, please get me a login before, and I can help make the changes. If you have custom DNS in place, in the past the migration process sometimes resets things like MX records, I will have a backup of FH1/FH2, so if you need zone files restored, please let me know.

That’s it! If I have a common set of questions, I’ll make a post of some common ones, if not – prayers are appreciated!

Update:

Unsure about your server name? Two options:

  1. Login to cPanel and then look at the URL bar in your browser, it should have adjusted to the hostname if it reads fellowship or grace – you’re moving this week!
  2. Login to https://secure.flockhosting.com – from there view ALL products, and it will list the Server: next to each product you host with FlockHosting.

Hope this helps!

Server Migrations Friday

The next 2 Fridays I’ll be doing server migrations. The first is this Friday, March 10th starting at 10:00 PM Pacific. The servers being migrated are:

  • Fellowship (New IP: 138.68.47.120)
  • Grace (New IP: 23.111.146.78)

Network Spotty Update

Earlier today I posted across social media that some customers were experiencing outages, the data center identified this as being related to a network peer having massive issues, they were removed from the network and problems seemed to reduce.

A few customers have reported all clear while a new batch have reported some issues here and there, we have continued to investigate and it seems some of the DNS outages caused some hiccups on servers which have mostly cleared up – but if you are having any additional issues right now please take the following steps:

  • Reboot your computer.
  • Clear your browser cache.

These two elements seem to clear it up for most folks, if you still have issue after that please email me or open a ticket and provide your IP address so I can provide some more info to the network guys regarding these issues. If there are more updates I will be posting them here – come back occasionally if you want more updates.

Migration Friday (Church & Grace)

I noted in the most recent FlockUpdate that there would be a migration on Friday and it’s nearly here!

I’ve moved a few accounts already and they have gone over smoothly (Thanks to brave testers!) the only in-between issue at this point is the hostnames. Since “grace.flockhosting.com” and “church.flockhosting.com” – still point to the active servers, and since folks check their email this way – it creates an issue for making this move quickly.

Grace Settings:

If you manage your DNS – the new IP is: 107.158.235.202

Simply point your A records to this new IP where you used to have: 107.189.34.98

Church Settings:

If you manage your DNS – the new IP is: 50.2.187.106

Simply point your A records to this new IP where you used to have: 107.189.33.250

For most of you thankfully it should not be an issue what-so-ever! Things are coming along awesomely, and performance has already improved since the cut-over as it stands, even with just a handful of accounts!

The official move is April 22, 2016 @ 10PM Pacific

Some news is coming on Monday! So stay tuned! A sneak peak may be posted on Facebook or Twitter, so if you aren’t following, please do!
